The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old security guard, Joy Amodu (pictured above), for allegedly torturing her 10-year-old niece, Foziya Danjuma for several hours till the little girl fell unconscious. All because Foziya peed on her bed on February 28, 2014, Punch reports
According to the police, the suspect as punishment, used a spatula to beat the 10-year-old and inserted Aboniki balm (methyl salicylate ointment) inside her private parts and her eyes. The suspect also allegedly inflicted teeth bites all over the girl’s body. It was after the girl fainted during the beating that her aunt rushed her to a hospital in the Ajah area, but she was rejected. Amodu then took her niece to a military hospital on the Victoria Island, but the victim was referred to the Military Hospital, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi. It was at the military hospital that a non-governmental organisation, Hands that Care, took over the case and reported it to the police.
The suspect, crying profusely, said she only beat her niece on three occasions. That the victim was her uncle’s daughter and she would never attempt to kill her.
“I am very sorry for my action. I did not envisage what happened. The first time she wet the bed, I warned her to stop bedwetting because she is too old for that. She was left under my care by her father who is my uncle, so I needed to correct her. This is the second time she wet the bed and I needed to teach her a lesson. As I was beating her, she passed out. She was released to me by her father when I told him about the strange sickness that used to hit me because I was lonely and needed a companion.”
The victim could not talk much, but when asked if she was tortured by her cousin, she nodded in approval. National Coordinator of the Hands that Cares, Mrs. Jacinta Nworie, said the girl was released to the suspect by her father in Kogi State because Amodu promised to train her in Lagos.
“The victim told us that the suspect bit her, inserted ointment into her private part and used stick to beat her up.”
Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, who expressed shock over the incident, described Amodu’s action as wicked.
She said:
“On February 29, 2014, the police at Onikan Division got information that a little girl was in one hospital in critical condition. The officers went there and found the victim with her face and hands swollen as a result of beating. The victim was later referred to the Military Hospital, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi for better treatment. An NGO, Hands that Care, was invited into the case by a good Nigerian. The NGO said it would settle the girl’s hospital bills, but called for Amodu’s prosecution.
It was learnt that the family members were already pleading that the victim and the suspect be released to them, saying it was a family matter. But a police source said since the victim was a minor, the government would decide if the case should be treated as a family matter or not.

On February 19th, the body of a Nigerian student studying in Ghana was found. Godwin Awogbo (pictured above), a 300level student of Social Sciences at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana was killed by unknown person/s and his body dumped by the roadside. February 20 was no doubt one of the saddest days for the family of Mr Fred Awogbo. Their son, 18-year-old Godwin Awogbo, was brutally killed. His body had been found with some his internal organs gorged out, with his hands and legs tied.
Godwin Awogbo’s lifeless body was reportedly found on the school campus. For days, everyone seemed to be clueless about what could have prompted such a brutal death. While the thoughts of Godwin being a cultist came to the minds of many, his friends, however, were quick to assert that Godwin was a cool-headed person with no such connection.
It would be recalled that Godwin Awogbo’s death made it the fourth Nigerian student to lose their life in the space of four months in Ghana. This has not only posed the question of how safe Nigerian students are in the Gold Coast, but it has also raised the question of how much university managements take an interest in the well-being of their foreign students, most of whom are teenagers.
The first death case was reported in October 2013 of a 15-year-old Nigerian, by the name of Master Austine Chukwuebuka Ogukwe, an SS3 student of Ideal College, Community 5, in Tema, who was reported dead under the watch of his house master amidst mysterious circumstance.
The second incident happened in November 2013, barely 26 days after the first death occurred. Two Nigerian students, Eddy and Charles of KNUSford University in Accra went for an excursion to the Volta region, under the guidance of school representative(s), but died when their canoe capsized.
Meeting with the father of the victim, Mr Fred Awogbo and some of his relatives at the Nigerian High Commission, emotions flowed freely.
Mr Awogbo’s eyes were swollen, obviously due to prolonged crying. He expressed many regrets as regards why he had not listened to his late son’s proprietor who had suggested that he should send his son to Canada to further his studies or better still, allow his son to weather the storm of strike actions often associated with Nigerian universities than losing him in Ghana to the cold hands of death, where he thought he was safe and he would not lose him to strange culture.
Sharing how he got to know of his son’s death: “It was my wife that actually called. She received a call from the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana that our attention was needed. When I called the embassy, I was first told an incident happened in his school and my son was missing. I asked if there was a riot, they said ‘No’ and promised to get back to me.
“So that prompted my curiosity to find out through my contact in Ghana on what actually happened. I called the driver that I had handed over my boy to and I asked him if there was any problem in the school. He said he was not aware of any but promised to find out after sharing what I heard from the Nigerian High Commission’s staff. A few minutes after, he called back to confirm that there was a problem, but he refused to say what exactly happened. Rather, he asked me to come over to Ghana.
“I was still ruminating over what could have happened to my son when a doctor friend of mine from the northern part of Nigeria called and informed me that his wife told him of the news of my son’s death. That was how I got to know about it. So on Monday, I left for Accra. We arrived at the Nigerian High Commission and with some of the staff of the High Commission, we went to meet the Vice Chancellor. The meeting was also witnessed by the Police and all Nigerian community leaders in Ghana.”
The Confession
“At the meeting, the management asked some of his friends and roommate to say what they knew about his death. Meanwhile, while I was in Nigeria, I spoke with his roommate, a Ghanaian, who told me that my son had withdrawn some thousands of dollars meant for his school fees, but had lent the money to some students. When he requested them to pay back, they started threatening his life. It was after the threats that he heard about his death.
“Unfortunately, after everyone of them had spoken, not even the roommate mentioned the issue of those my son lent some money and how they threatened him. So, I told the school authority and the police right there to ask him to tell them how my son was threatened. It was when he started talking that we realised he (the room mate) was the one who borrowed about $4,500 from my son, thereby denying my son the opportunity of paying his school fees on time. When my late son started worrying him, he set him up. So, after the police took my statement, they promised to arrest him.”
Speaking on what kind of child his son was, he said, “My son was brought up in the church. When he was still in secondary school, he was being addressed as ‘Dr Pastor’ because he was active in church”. Appreciating the efforts of the Nigerian High Commission, Mr Awogbo said “The Nigeria High Commission in Ghana really surprised us with the amount of effort they have put into this case. They have promised to make sure the killer is brought to book.”
Mr Awogbo stressed his regret of sending his son to study in Ghana “Honestly, I regret sending my child to study in Ghana, because if he had gained admission into higher institution in Nigeria, this would not have happened. The reason I sent him to Ghana was to avoid the issue of strike action in Nigerian higher institutions. Even his mother and proprietor wanted him to go to Canada to further his studies. They really persuaded me but I said ‘No’, because I didn’t want to lose my boy.
“I have been traveling to Europe for more than 20 years and I know what happens in such developed countries. At a tender age, I thought if I sent him there, I might lose him; he might not even want to come back home.
“So I decided that after he’s through with his degree, he would go and do his Masters in Canada, but here we are.”
Advising parents who are yearning to send their children to Ghana to study, he said. “As for now, I cannot advise any Nigerian parent to send their children to study in Ghana; a lot of them studying here are teenagers and the stress is too much for them. Coming here myself has made me know that, in addition is the fact that the money we are paying is too much, compared to what private universities are charging in Nigeria.”

12 days after Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 went missing, the mystery has still not been solved. This incident is unprecedented in aviation history. The latest update now is that a Taiwanese student is claiming to have found a satellite image which appears to show the missing passenger plane in the skies above a jungle. The authenticity of the photo has not been verified, and the region depicted in the image is unknown. The image was taken from a map search website currently being used by thousands of people in an attempt to search for the plane.
Malaysian authorities have yet to respond to this new claim. Some days ago, some fishermen and villagers close to the southern border of Thailand said they saw ‘bright light descending at high speed’ and loud noise of a plane engine on the night the plane disappeared.

This is not good at all. A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200 carrying 239 people lost contact over the South China Sea on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, raising fears that the plane might have plunged into the pacific ocean.
The plane, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew members, lost communication two hours into the flight in Vietnam’s airspace at 1.20am local time, China’s official Xinhua News Agency reports.
The aircraft left Kuala Lumpur for Beijing 12: 11 am on Friday and had been expected to arrive China at 6:30 am but lost contact with traffic controllers over the South China Sea between Malaysia and Vietnam.
Passengers were from 14 countries, including 153 from China, 38 from Malaysia, seven Australians and four Americans.
Search & rescue have begun and families and next of kin of passengers and crew have been notified. The last time a plane went missing like this, the plane, an Air France aircraft, was eventually found in the Atlantic Ocean, resulting in the deaths of 228 people. This was in 2009. This is not good.

I’m writing to condemn the recent anti-gay bill signed into law by our President Jonathan Goodluck. This law – which contains penalties of up to 14 years in prison for anyone in a same-sex marriage or civil union, 10 years for anyone who attends a same-sex wedding, 10 years for anyone involved with an LGBT organization, and even 10 years for anyone who shows affection for someone of the same sex – should be cast out. Since the law was passed, police across Nigeria have begun arresting and torturing dozens of our fellow citizens suspected of being gay. Don’t forget that in some of our states, if you are found guilty of being gay, you could be stoned to death.
First of all, this law was unnecessary. There is not space in the existing constitution for gay marriage. Our constitution is very definitive of marriage as a union between man and woman. I see the signing in of this law for what it was: a cheap shot by an under-achieving government to discriminate against people because they are different.
The president of Nigeria has a PhD, so he should understand better than most the implications of the law. Even if he couldn’t stop the senate from passing the bill, he had the power to delay signing it as a way of protecting the gay community. The President has had the Petroleum Industry Bill in front of him for years, and he and our senators have stalled on the bill calling for harsher punishment for corruption. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s senate has just sanctioned paedophilia in our constitution (girls that are as young as 9 years old can continue to be married in if they are “physically developed enough” according to their parents or prospective husbands) – so this the ban on homosexuality can hardly be a so-called “moral” issue. This is simply a move for cheap political points. Meanwhile, people’s lives hang in the balance.
Today I am writing this not as a fight for “gay rights”, I am fighting for all rights. People should be allowed to express themselves freely and this includes their sexuality. I believe all gay people should come out and organize openly. I expect that society should allow them live their lives as they please.
It’s not a cultural thing – it’s a sexual thing. I have even heard people say it’s Western culture imposed on us and if the West doesn’t recognize polygamy we should not accept homosexuality. This is the kind of scary ignorance that this kind of law will foster. (I can say for a fact that the constitution of Nigeria does not recognize polygamy. We have customary laws that are non-binding, but our secular courts and national constitution does not allow polygamy even though it’s “our culture.”)
I believe in education as the answer to any problem and I know this law does not educate positively. It just criminalizes and institutionalizes hate towards the gay community.
Here’s a call to action: I believe the gay community should come out! They need to put love above fear. I also believe that gay people in Africa not just Nigeria who are being targeted like this should put pressure on the West by claiming asylum in their countries. I think we are about to see a new wave of sexual refugees!
Love over fear should be the way forward.

“With deep regret, I officially announce the departure from MOSSDEFF Management due to irreconcilable differences. I waited for good three months to see if things were going to work out within the management but the situation went beyond thinking. Chris Brown appeared in court yesterday with his ‘ride or die’ chick, Karrueche Tran, who supported him as he faced a judge regarding his arrest for battery in Washington, D.C. The singer avoided jail time at a hearing.
The prosecutor wanted Chris in jail, telling the judge, “He continues to pose an increasingly violent danger to society. Defendant Brown’s violent behavior continues to increase in severity & frequency.”
It was also revealed that additional witnesses have come forward in the D.C. case providing sufficient evidence to move forward with a trial, but fortunately for Chris, the judge denied the prosecutor’s motion ruling instead that Chris Brown complete his 90 day rehab program.

Nollywood actress Chika Ike has really transformed into a beautiful woman compared to the innocent and beautiful girl that entered Nollywood and we are proud of her for making a statement despite the stiff competition in the industry.
It seems Chika Ike recent pictures are uniquely different from her past pictures and experts who analysed the pictures said it is clear she had a nose job. Nollywood actress and her husband Olumide Akande welcomed a new baby today. The happy mum shared a photo on her instagram page announcing the birth of her second child. Dakore and Olu already have a two year old daughter. Big congrats to them.
It has been confirmed, Phyno isn’t expecting a child with
Rita Edmond. In early January 2014, we revealed that we received a report that the rising singer is with child for the “Ghost Mode” rapper. Phyno denied the claims in an interview with Punch Newspaper. Reporters at Punch also contacted Rita for an answer but she was quite evasive, only stating that she is in love with a rapper whose name she didn’t reveal.
In an interview with Hip TV, Rita says she hasn’t met Phyno and isn’t having his child. She also says she isn’t
pregnant at all.
“I’m not pregnant for Phyno and I am not his girlfriend, I
have nothing whatsoever to do with Phyno. I don’t even
know him one-on-one and I am not pregnant for any man
at all”, she said.
Why is Rita claiming she isn’t pregnant at all, when she
insinuated that she was in the interview with Punch. It is
obvious it was publicity stunt which Rita probably had
something to do with.
News has learned that the Los Angeles District Attorney
has declined to prosecute or pursue charges against the rapper
following an alleged assault incident in Beverly Hills earlier
this month.
We were told that this outcome was possibly last week, after
the alleged assault victim failed to appear at a followup
interview with authorities. Criminal defense attorney Troy
Slaten (who is not directly involved with the case) told E!
News at the time that authorities usually want victims to
come in after the incident so they can explain the extent of
the injuries, show results of any medical exams and/or
treatments to compile the most complete and accurate report
to the District Attorney.
However, Slaten added that, “If they don’t have a cooperative
victim, the case is harder to prosecute. If you have no victim,
it would most likely get dismissed.”
Police responded to a 911 call on Jan. 13 after Yeezy
confronted a teen who was reportedly screaming racial slurs
at his fiancée Kim Kardashian while the E! star was arriving
to a design appointment.
“Kim and Kanye were meeting for an appointment today,” a
source told E! News at the time of the incident. “Kim arrived
later than Kanye. En route into the building Kim saw a young
man yelling racial slurs at the paparazzi. Kim told him he
shouldn’t use racial slurs and he turned on her and verbally
assaulted her.”
The source says that the young man verbally attacked the
Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, telling her to “shut the
f–k up” before continuing to use the N-word while aiming his
insults at Kim. “The two ended up in a stairwell where the
man was in her face and continued to verbally assault her,”
the insider added. “She was genuinely scared.”
Kanye, who was already present at the building, called Kim
and overheard the teen yelling at her, so he “came running
down…he confronted the guy,” according to the source.
According to a report by Sun News, a woman in Imo state
set herself, her husband and their home ablaze after finding
out that her husband of 12 years was planning to get rid of
her because she was barren, and bring in another woman
who already had two children for him and pregnant for the

They died together – by fire. The house they both shared
as man and wife is also in ruins, burnt to the ground. As
at the time of writing this report, the charred body of the
woman lay morbidly in the midst of the debris.
Approaching the burnt building, certain eerie feeling hits
with a good impact. The man, who was saved from dying
with his wife inside the fire, died on the way to hospital.
“You can say both of them died together,” observed a
shocked, grieving neighbour.
The puzzle now is not just that the couple, Patience and
Monday Chilaekezie died by fire. To the Umuodu
community in Ezinihitte Local Government Area of Imo
State, it is that they can hardly understand why Patience
could have been so incensed and callous to the extent of
setting herself and her husband on fire.
Chidinma, Monday’s younger sister’s accounts of events
leading to the tragic end, indicate that Patience had
carefully planned it all. According to her, Patience had
been grieving that her husband of 12 years had decided to
send her away. It was learnt that the couple had married
for that long without children. As Chidinma said, her
brother had made up his mind to bring in another woman
within the community who was pregnant for him.
It was said that Patience, a petty trader, had lured her
husband into their house, poured petrol on both of them
and then set the house on fire. It was also said that while
they and the house were burning, she held fast onto her
husband to ensure that he did not escape the inferno.
Saturday Sun gathered that neighbours, who noticed the
flame and heard the cry for help, were able to rescue the
man who later died on his way to the hospital. Community
members, who rushed to see Patience’s charred body when
the fire had burnt out, was gripped by fear and horror.
Chidinma further told Saturday Sun that her brother was
able to run out from the inferno alive but died 20 minutes
later on the way as they were rushing him to hospital.
In tears, she recalled that on the day of the incident, being
January 11, 2014, her brother, who was an automobile
technician, had gone to his shop as he did every day. His
wife, popularly known as Madam Oil, had also left the
house for her shop at a local market. However, a few hours
later, she came back to the house. She was said to have
been seen with a keg that, in the instance, could be
containing petrol, with which she later sprinkled round the
house.
According to Chidinma: “She called my brother that there
was an emergency and that he should rush back home. I
was at home then, but in the next building. He was the one
that told me that his wife just called that there is an
emergency. While he was stepping into the house, I heard
him call on his wife that he can perceive the smell of fuel all
over the place. In less than one minute after he went inside
the house, the house started to burn.
“I heard my brother screaming for help. I think by then he
was struggling with his wife. We were able to reach them
and my brother was brought out alive, while his wife was
burnt beyond recognition. Shortly before he died, he told us
that his wife had finally fulfilled her promise. My brother
said that his wife was threatening that she would kill him
and kill herself too.”
On a possible reason she could have done that, Chidinma
said: “They had been married for years without any child.
This has caused a lot of problem between the couple to the
extent that my brother secretly married another wife. The
woman gave birth to two girls and is pregnant now with
the third child. When she finally discovered, she was
devastated because she had severally pleaded with her
husband to allow her adopt a child. The last family meeting
we had, she was told to leave her husband’s house if she
was not ready to accommodate another woman who had
given her husband children. Since that day, she had been
living a secluded life, most especially when the family
made it clear that they would not accept a bastard as a
child in the name of adoption. Nobody knew that she would
get to this point of committing suicide.”
Another eyewitness, who is also a neighbour, claimed that
he saw the deceased sprinkle fuel round the house.
“Initially, I thought it was holy water because she had
turned into a prayer warrior ever since she could not get
pregnant. She was always depressed because her fellow
women in the community jeered at her especially when
they heard that she refused to allow the other woman to
live in their husband’s house. We were all shocked to
realise that she actually planned to kill herself and the
husband.”
A woman, who later introduced herself as Mama Chima,
claimed that days before the incident, Patience was selling
off her wares at a give-away price. “It was more like an
auction market. When I asked her what was going on, she
said that she was trying to change to another line of
business. She was always crying, and mumbling to herself.”
Also at the scene was the second wife who wept
uncontrollably. “What kind of bad luck is this? Who is
going to take care of my children and me? He promised to
drive the other woman, so that we can have peace in this
house. It is nobody’s fault that God did not give her a
child,” the unfortunate woman lamented.

The veteran actor said to motivate each of his six children,
he bought them all cars upon graduation from the
university.
“I wanted to motivate them and keep them away from
peer pressure. Parents must be able to motivate their
children and set target for them. The minimum target for
each of them was to graduate from higher institution;
their reward upon graduation is a car. And where I come
from, it is important to keep one’s word; I bought the car
for each of them. Yul who is over 30 (pictured above) is

Femi Kuti has lost out at the Grammy Awards for the fourth
time. He was nominated in the ‘World Music’ category for his
album ‘No Place For My Dream’ but lost out to French
group Gipsy Kings and South African choral group Ladysmith
Black Mambazo in a tie.
The winner for the category and some others were announced
at a pre-telecast yesterday evening Jan. 26th.
The Afrobeat king also lost out at the Grammys in 2003, 2010
and 2011. Which means nothing really because being nominated
is a great achievement! Femi didn’t attend the awards.
The Brit just earned her tenth Grammy after she took home the award for Best Song Written for Visual Media for her hit “Skyfall.”
The track was the theme song for last year’s hit James Bond film and has been a smash success from the get-go.
Adele already won an Academy Award and the Golden Globe for the dramatic ballad last year. (A bit of nerdy trivia for all you Bond fanatics out there, the “Skyfall” award was the first time in over 30 years that a James Bond tune has earned an Academy Award. Nicely done!)
The “Rolling in the Deep” singer wasn’t present at this year’s Grammy Awards but instead gave a short version of an acceptance speech via Twitter.
“Wish I was there! Thank you for the grammy! (My 10th one! Whhaaa?) Have a wonderful night. I’m in bed, now feeling very restless” she wrote to her fans.
